Soldiers from the Nigerian Army 6 Brigade, operating under Operation Whirl Stroke, successfully freed two people held by armed men in the Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State. Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the details on Monday in Jalingo.
Acting on intelligence reports from Saturday, troops tracked suspected kidnappers to the Lande Jessi region. Reports indicated that gunmen had raided the villages of Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani, seizing both victims and local food supplies. The two rescued individuals, Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, had been held for approximately seven days before their liberation.
Authorities are currently searching for the attackers who managed to escape. Brigadier-General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the soldiers for their bravery and efficiency. He noted that the mission supports the broader mandate from Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, to eliminate criminal threats nationwide. The military continues to urge local residents to report suspicious activities to help maintain safety throughout the region.
