Law enforcement authorities in Osun State have initiated a formal inquiry following reports that unidentified assailants attacked officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area. The attackers reportedly stole several Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the incident.
According to DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command spokesperson, a group of approximately ten armed individuals targeted INEC staff while they were distributing voter cards at the Oyinlola DC Primary School in Ward 2. The perpetrators allegedly fired shots into the air before seizing three bundles of PVCs.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has denounced the criminal act and ordered a thorough investigation to ensure the suspects are captured and brought to justice. Security forces, including tactical and intelligence units, have been dispatched to the area to track down the offenders and retrieve the missing cards. The police have reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining public safety and following legal procedures.
Authorities have requested that the public remain composed and avoid any activities that could incite further unrest. Any citizens possessing information regarding the attack are encouraged to notify their local police station or reach out via official emergency channels. Furthermore, the command confirmed that order has been reestablished in Ile-Ife after a separate incident of disturbance near the Mayfair Garage.
