Devon and Cornwall Police have initiated a murder investigation following the passing of 78-year-old Ann Widdecombe. The former Conservative minister and current Reform UK representative was discovered deceased at her Dartmoor residence on Thursday morning, having sustained severe injuries. Emergency responders were contacted by the ambulance service, leading to the grim discovery at her Haytor home.
While her representatives initially confirmed her death on Friday without citing suspicious circumstances, the situation shifted rapidly that afternoon when authorities formally classified the case as a homicide. Her management team expressed their profound devastation regarding the unfolding police investigation. Currently, investigators are searching for a white male suspect and are urging the public to provide any relevant CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam recordings from the vicinity of Haytor Vale.
Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson stated that the situation is being handled with urgency, and additional uniformed officers have been deployed to the area to support the investigation and provide community reassurance. Widdecombe, born in 1947, had a distinguished background as an MP for Maidstone, a government minister, and a prominent television personality. In recent years, she served as a spokesperson for Reform UK.
