Abia State Governor Alex Otti has addressed recent statements concerning President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election in 2027. While Otti noted that the President maintains the constitutional prerogative to seek a second term, he emphasized that the ultimate choice belongs to the Nigerian people.
This clarification follows remarks from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who leads the South-East Governors’ Forum. Uzodimma had claimed that all five governors in the region reached a collective agreement to back the President, citing federal infrastructure projects and the creation of the South-East Development Commission as primary motivations.
Otti, representing the Labour Party, rejected the suggestion of a unified regional consensus. He stated that while he respects Uzodimma’s right to share personal opinions, such statements do not represent the views of every governor. Otti maintained that it is currently too premature to focus on election outcomes, asserting that each political actor is entitled to their own perspective.
