Frank claimed that the Nigerian presidency is intentionally misleading the public by misrepresenting a routine diplomatic note from President Donald Trump as an official endorsement of the current administration. Frank argued that the government is utilizing this document to divert attention from controversy surrounding court records linked to President Tinubu’s past.
The tension has escalated following the U.S. House of Representatives’ decision to pass an amendment that would withhold all assistance to Nigeria until the nation demonstrates concrete progress in curbing sectarian violence. Senator Cruz, who introduced the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025, maintains that officials in Nigeria have fostered an environment where religious minorities face systemic threats. He stated that the government’s focus on high-priced lobbying efforts serves only to mask a persistent culture of denial regarding the plight of Christian communities.
