Israeli Knesset Hosts Indigenous People of Biafra Delegation in Jerusalem

A delegation from the Indigenous People of Biafra was hosted by Israeli lawmakers in Jerusalem, marking a key advancement in the group’s international diplomatic efforts.

The Israeli Knesset, which serves as the nation’s unicameral parliament and highest governing authority, recently held an official meeting with representatives from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The Biafran delegation was headed by Mazi Chris Nwaogu, the Director of State, and was officially welcomed by Deputy Knesset Speaker Nissim Vaturi alongside Limor Son Har-Melech, who serves as Deputy Chairman and sits on the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.

Emma Powerful, acting as the spokesperson for IPOB, characterized the meeting as a significant achievement for the group’s non-violent diplomatic strategy. The organization expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown by Israeli officials, framing the encounter as a productive and cordial interaction. According to the group, the discussions reinforced their leader Nnamdi Kanu’s belief that securing Biafran statehood requires strategic alliances with nations like Israel and the United States, built upon a foundation of shared values such as liberty and human rights.

IPOB highlighted that the Biafran and Jewish populations share common historical traumas involving displacement and existential threats. The group drew inspiration from the establishment of Israel in 1948 and argued that a sovereign Biafra is essential to protect marginalized communities in Nigeria. Furthermore, IPOB stated that it is currently pursuing similar diplomatic engagements in Washington, D.C., and other global capitals to advance its cause through legal and peaceful channels.
