North Korea has once again voiced its backing for the Russian campaign in Ukraine. This development followed a meeting in Moscow between foreign ministers Choe Son Hui and Sergey Lavrov, as reported by Pyongyang’s state media. The interaction has sparked rumors that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un might arrange another trip to meet Vladimir Putin soon.
Since the conflict began in 2022, the two nations have significantly deepened their ties. Experts suggest Pyongyang is supplying munitions and troops to the Kursk area in exchange for energy, food, financial aid, and military expertise. The KCNA reported that both nations pledged to strengthen their long-term bilateral partnership. North Korea specifically stated its support for Russia’s efforts to maintain sovereignty and address the origins of the Ukraine conflict, while Moscow reciprocated by backing Pyongyang’s security initiatives.
President Putin recently acknowledged the ongoing cooperation, thanking the North Korean delegation for their assistance with the special military operation. With recent diplomatic exchanges involving China, analysts believe Kim may visit Russia later this year to solidify an alignment between Pyongyang, Moscow, and Beijing, effectively working to bypass his country’s international isolation.
