Tensions are rising in the Wasagu community of Kebbi State after a surge in violent attacks left one elderly farmer dead and another missing within a single day. On Tuesday evening, gunmen fatally shot a farmer during his agricultural duties; he was later pronounced dead at the General Hospital in Wasagu. This tragedy followed an abduction of a separate farmer near the town on Monday.
These recurring assaults have crippled local morale, as residents struggle to maintain the farming activities essential to their survival. The community reports that bandits are targeting rural areas during the critical harvest window, making daily labor perilous. Locals are frustrated by the delayed arrival of government-promised protections, including extra security personnel and an Army Forward Operating Base, which were pledged after previous visits from state leadership.
While residents praise Senator Garba Musa Maidoki for his continued advocacy regarding the safety of Kebbi South, they feel largely neglected by other officials. The community is now urgently calling on both state and federal authorities to honor their security commitments and establish a safer environment for agricultural workers.
