Jigawa State government officials are currently feeling the pressure after Governor Umar Namadi conducted a sudden inspection of the State Secretariat this past Monday. This visit, marking his second surprise check since taking power in 2023, was designed to evaluate staff attendance, professional dedication, and the progress of secretariat repairs.
Upon his arrival, the Governor discovered that numerous offices were completely abandoned, leaving only minimal security and custodial staff on duty. Key offices, including those of the Accountant General, the Head of the Civil Service, and the Secretary to the State Government, were found locked. Furthermore, the majority of the 18 state commissioners were missing from their posts, with the Commissioner for Works being the sole exception. Only the permanent secretaries for the Ministries of Livestock Development and Health were present to meet him.
This event has triggered significant concern within the State Executive Council, as many officials now fear impending disciplinary actions. Governor Namadi made his displeasure clear, labeling the widespread absenteeism as intolerable. He warned that his administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding civil service misconduct and emphasized that every official is accountable for delivering reliable service to the people of Jigawa.
