Internal friction has intensified within the Ondo State All Progressives Congress as legislative aspirants aligned with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa take their grievances to court. The litigation targets the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission, specifically challenging the validity of the direct primary process held on May 16, 2026.
Reports suggest that many of the petitioners received financial support from the governor’s camp for their nomination fees. In an effort to resolve the conflict, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, the state party chairman, to establish a reconciliation committee headed by Prince Biyi Poroye.
One prominent legal action involves Pastor Akingboye Akinleke David, who is challenging the nomination of Hon. Donald Ojogo for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency. In suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1538/2026, filed by Dr. Remi Peter Olatubora, SAN, the plaintiff seeks a judicial determination on whether the party can nominate a candidate who did not secure the most votes in the primary election. While the court has yet to schedule a hearing, party leadership noted that the initial selection followed the findings of an appeal committee regarding alleged irregularities.
