Adamawa State Raises Minimum Pension to N50,000

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has increased the minimum monthly pension for Adamawa state civil servants to N50,000, ending a two-decade period where the lowest-paid retirees received only N4,000.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has revealed a major upward adjustment to the state’s minimum monthly pension, setting the new floor at N50,000 for retired civil servants. This change marks a substantial improvement from the previous N4,000 rate that the lowest-earning retirees had endured for over two decades, which had been a frequent source of local protests.

The governor disclosed the policy shift during a Friday interview on the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation’s Hausa show, Taba Kidi Taba Karatu. He characterized the previous payment level as an injustice that his government felt compelled to correct. According to Fintiri, the increase is intended to honor the lengthy service of retirees and serves as part of a broader commitment to boost the welfare of the state’s workforce.

While Mohammed Sali, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, was unavailable for comment on Friday, he had previously confirmed that the N4,000 monthly figure had remained stagnant for more than 20 years.
