The Osun State Government has asserted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) exceeded its authority by freezing state accounts without obtaining a court mandate. Information Commissioner Kolapo Alimi described the situation as a targeted effort to undermine Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. Alimi highlighted that since February 2025, federal allocations for local governments have been distributed directly to chairmen, leaving the state government with no control over those specific funds.
Conversely, Adebayo Adedeji, secretary of the APC’s media committee, dismissed these claims and leveled allegations of systemic corruption against the Adeleke administration. During a joint appearance on Channels Television, Adedeji argued that state officials should address the EFCC’s inquiries directly rather than blaming the APC for the investigation. He disputed the government’s financial claims, suggesting that after covering wage bills, the state maintains a significant surplus that lacks transparency.
Alimi countered by accusing the EFCC of bias, noting that the agency has ignored a formal petition submitted by the state against former Governor Gboyega Oyetola regarding allegations of money laundering and fund mismanagement. Meanwhile, Adedeji urged the current state leadership to provide accountability for federal interventions, including the N2 billion grant meant for CNG buses and substantial ecological funds provided in 2024 and 2025.
