FA reaffirms support for Thomas Tuchel after England World Cup elimination

The Football Association has confirmed that Thomas Tuchel will remain England manager through Euro 2028 despite a semi-final loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel keeps the confidence of the Football Association following the team’s difficult departure from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FA CEO Mark Bullingham stated that the German manager and his team displayed maximum effort throughout the tournament.

England’s pursuit of a major men’s trophy remains unfulfilled after a 2-1 semi-final loss to Argentina in Atlanta. Although Anthony Gordon provided an early lead, late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez secured the victory for Argentina. Bullingham dismissed criticisms regarding Tuchel’s tactical decisions during the match, emphasizing that the FA remains committed to the former Chelsea manager.

Tuchel intends to honor his contract, which extends through the 2028 European Championship. Despite the frustration of the semi-final result, the manager noted that reaching the final four is a significant accomplishment, even if the team’s internal standards remain much higher. England will now compete in the third-place play-off against France before focusing on the upcoming home tournament in 2028.
