Kilmarnock secure last-minute victory despite red card in Premier Sports Cup

Joe Hugill’s injury-time goal earned 10-man Kilmarnock a narrow victory over Elgin City, while other Scottish clubs battled through a busy Premier Sports Cup schedule.

Kilmarnock triumphed over Elgin City in a 1-0 win during the Premier Sports Cup group stage, thanks to a 93rd-minute strike from Joe Hugill. The victory was particularly impressive as the Premiership team played with only ten men following the 37th-minute dismissal of Jamie Brandon.

Across the competition, other top-flight teams secured dominant results. St Johnstone defeated Greenock Morton 3-0, while St Mirren cruised to a 4-0 win over Cove Rangers. In a high-scoring encounter at K-Park, East Kilbride overcame Dumbarton 5-3, highlighted by a Cameron Elliott hat-trick.

Elsewhere, Montrose beat Stirling Albion 2-0, Queen of the South eased past Brora Rangers 3-0, and Airdrieonians secured a 3-0 win against Annan Athletic. Ross County defeated Clyde 3-1, Stenhousemuir edged Brechin City 2-1, and Ayr United took a 2-0 victory over Edinburgh City. Inverness Caledonian Thistle also managed a 2-0 win away at Linlithgow Rose.

Several matches resulted in draws and penalty shoot-outs. Partick Thistle earned a bonus point against Livingston after a 1-1 stalemate, while Hamilton Academical did the same against Raith Rovers. Alloa Athletic also claimed a penalty shoot-out victory against Stranraer following a 2-2 draw.
