Architect Peter Agada, a 2027 presidential candidate for the Young Progressives Party, has formally requested that President Bola Tinubu modernize Nigeria’s security framework. Speaking in Abuja, Agada addressed the July 2026 raids on Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi in Benue State, criticizing the federal government for prioritizing reactive condolences over proactive defense.
Agada, who leads The Movement Nigeria, argues for a transition to a technology-centered security infrastructure designed to intercept threats before they occur. He maintains that his organization’s internal investigation revealed that the actual death toll from the Otukpo incident exceeds 50 people, significantly higher than official reports suggest. Furthermore, Agada contends that state-level resources are sufficient to curb violence if paired with greater political integrity and transparency.
Highlighting data gathered by his organization between 2016 and 2021, Agada emphasized that systemic failure to address terrorism and kidnapping undermines the stability of the nation. He concluded by calling for the immediate prosecution of those responsible for ongoing violence across communities in Benue and Plateau states.
