Seriake Dickson Vows to Fight Court Ruling Mandating NDC Deregistration

Nigeria Democratic Congress leader Seriake Dickson rejects a court order for his party’s deregistration, labeling it an illegal threat to democracy and pledging to challenge the verdict.

Seriake Dickson, the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has formally denounced a Federal High Court decision calling for the party’s deregistration. During a statement addressing the ruling by Justice Isah Dashen in Lokoja, Dickson labeled the decision illegal and promised a swift legal challenge.

Dickson argued that the court order is fundamentally flawed and intended to destabilize the party’s recent gains. He claimed the ruling serves as an assault on Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system, suggesting it is a deliberate effort to restrict political participation. The party leader has already organized a legal team to overturn the mandate, encouraging supporters to stay composed and continue their operations.

Furthermore, Dickson questioned the legitimacy of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), the organization that filed the suit, noting that it is not an INEC-registered entity. He alleged that political rivals, threatened by the NDC’s quick expansion over the last five months, orchestrated the legal action behind the scenes. Despite this hurdle, Dickson remains confident that the party will prevail in court and keep its candidates on the ballot for upcoming electoral cycles.
