Yusuf Adamu Gadgi, the representative for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in Plateau State, has called for a shift in national strategy regarding banditry. He argues that the government should prioritize the total elimination of criminal factions rather than engaging in negotiations or funding rehabilitation programs for surrendered combatants.
During a Sunday interview with TVC News, Gadgi expressed empathy for the families of kidnapping victims, noting that he understands the pressure to pay ransom during such traumatic events. Despite this, he remains steadfast in his opposition to ransom payments. He contends that military force is the most effective way to address the crisis, suggesting that eliminating these criminal elements would permanently resolve the threat of extortion.
Highlighting the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State as a model, the lawmaker urged the government to replace amnesty initiatives with decisive security operations. He further criticized the allocation of taxpayer funds toward the rehabilitation of former insurgents. Gadgi stated that such financial resources would be better utilized supporting the victims and their families directly. He also warned that reintegrating these individuals poses a significant security risk, as they might provide intelligence to ongoing criminal networks or return to violence. Ultimately, Gadgi asserts that the armed forces must prioritize neutralizing perpetrators instead of offering them leniency.
