The African Democratic Congress (ADC) asserts that the 2027 presidential election results will reflect the will of the Nigerian electorate rather than the personal viewpoints of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for fixating on Obasanjo’s recent statements regarding Atiku Abubakar to distract from pressing national issues.
According to the ADC, the ruling party is using this rhetoric to evade accountability following critiques from Catholic Bishops regarding the state of the nation. The ADC argues that the APC consistently chooses to attack critics, whether they are religious leaders or political figures, rather than defending its governance track record. The party highlighted that the administration in which Atiku Abubakar served as Vice President oversaw superior economic stability compared to current conditions.
The opposition party urged the government to address the escalating cost of living, widespread poverty, high unemployment rates, and persistent insecurity. The ADC emphasized that the upcoming election will be defined by the lived experiences of citizens, noting that Nigerians are currently facing greater economic hardship and uncertainty than in previous years.
