Nigeria currently possesses the largest fleet of private aircraft on the continent, according to Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo. This status serves as a strategic advantage to foster collaboration with international plane manufacturers and advance the domestic aviation sector.
Keyamo shared these remarks in Montréal, Canada, following a productive tour of the Bombardier Laurent Beaudoin Completion Centre. This event concluded discussions with four prominent original equipment manufacturers: Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, and Bombardier. The meetings aimed to secure better financing, technical guidance, and access to modern aircraft for local operators.
Highlighting the nation’s substantial business aviation market, the minister emphasized the goal of linking Nigerian firms directly with global producers. This initiative seeks to update existing fleets, boost safety measures, and increase operational efficiency. The Nigerian delegation, which included officials from the NCAA and FAAN, explored various facets of Bombardier’s operations, including pilot training, digital systems, and maintenance solutions.
Ultimately, these efforts represent the administration’s plan to establish Nigeria as a premier aviation center in Africa. By prioritizing fleet modernization and technical capacity building, the government intends to promote long-term stability and sustainable growth within the industry.
