Air transport unions have delivered a new seven-day deadline to airlines failing to pay the mandatory five per cent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC). These organizations warn that if these debts remain unpaid, staff will begin industrial action at the impacted carrier facilities.
Frances Akinjole, representing the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, joined Odinaka Igbokwe of the National Union of Air Transport Employees to sign the formal notice sent to the President of the Airline Operators of Nigeria. This correspondence, dated July 27, 2025, follows an earlier 14-day notice issued on July 8, 2026, which the unions claim was ignored by the operators.
The unions emphasize that the missing funds prevent aviation agencies from maintaining safe operations and negatively impact the well-being of industry workers. They argue that neglecting these payments threatens national airspace safety and demotivates personnel. Consequently, if the total outstanding balance is not cleared within the week, the unions intend to take direct action at the offices of the offending airlines.
