Mahdi Shehu Promises Accountability for Legislators Mismanaging Constituency Funds

Mahdi Shehu has issued a warning to lawmakers involved in the misuse of constituency funds, stating that those who exploit public projects for personal gain will inevitably face serious consequences.

Public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has stated that legislators responsible for manipulating constituency projects will inevitably answer for their conduct. His remarks followed reports revealing that 16 federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were allocated over N205.96 billion for initiatives falling outside their legal scope within the 2026 Appropriation Act.

In a social media statement, Shehu claimed that certain National Assembly members are exploiting these projects for private enrichment. He asserted that these individuals bypass regulations by parking funds within agencies, pressuring agency leadership, and directing inflated contracts to entities controlled by their families or associates. Many such projects remain unfinished or were completed to a substandard quality.

Shehu emphasized that these officials will eventually face severe repercussions for their breach of public trust. He noted that the hardship forced upon citizens by this corruption will mirror the personal ruin and degradation these lawmakers will ultimately suffer.
