Members of the At-Tanzil Islamic Foundation in Ondo State have formally requested that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa prioritize inclusivity within his administration. Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Ajiboye Lagbaji, the foundation’s leader, argued that the Muslim community currently lacks fair representation in essential government roles.
During a press briefing announcing the organization’s 20th anniversary, Lagbaji emphasized that the state government should offer equal opportunities across religious lines. He specifically pointed to a perceived lack of Muslims among recently appointed High Court judges and Permanent Secretaries. Additionally, he suggested that political stability could be improved by ensuring religious balance in the offices of governor and deputy governor.
While addressing wider national issues, Lagbaji highlighted economic struggles such as rising inflation, unemployment, and insecurity. He noted that these pressures significantly impact vulnerable groups, necessitating active humanitarian support from organizations like his own. Over the last two decades, the At-Tanzil Islamic Foundation has provided scholarships, vocational training for widows, and various social welfare services to those in need.
The foundation is set to celebrate its milestone with a week of events, including community outreach and a book launch. The final event on August 16 will feature the Emir of Kano, His Highness Khalifa Dr. Muhammad Sanusi II, and a lecture by the Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa. Lagbaji indicated that the Emir’s presence highlights the substantial national impact of the group’s two decades of humanitarian work.
