Jurgen Klopp set to take over as Germany national team manager

Jurgen Klopp is expected to become the new Germany head coach after initial agreement with DFB officials, following the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.

Jurgen Klopp has reached a preliminary agreement to become the head coach of the German men’s national team. The former Liverpool manager engaged in high-level discussions with German Football Association (DFB) officials in New York this past Friday.

While the DFB indicated that further meetings are scheduled for the coming week and a formal release from his current role as global head of football at Red Bull is still required, Klopp’s appointment appears imminent. He is poised to succeed Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned following Germany’s early departure from the World Cup.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that they established a foundational agreement on contract terms during their productive meeting in New York. Both parties anticipate a successful conclusion to negotiations once the matter regarding Klopp’s current employer is resolved. It is expected that the deal will span four years, marking Klopp’s first venture into international management.

This appointment follows a decorated career that saw Klopp secure seven major trophies at Liverpool, including the Champions League and the Premier League. He previously enjoyed success in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Mainz 05. The connection between Klopp and Watzke, who worked together at Dortmund, is considered a significant factor in the rapid progress of these talks as Germany seeks to rejuvenate its squad following a disappointing round of 32 exit against Paraguay.
