Miroslav Koubek steps down as Czechia coach following 2026 World Cup exit

Czechia manager Miroslav Koubek has resigned after his team finished at the bottom of Group A, marking the third coaching departure of the 2026 World Cup.

Miroslav Koubek has resigned as manager of the Czechia national team after the squad failed to advance past the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Czech side concluded their campaign at the bottom of Group A, managing only a single point across three fixtures played against Korea Republic, South Africa, and Mexico.

The 74-year-old manager had been appointed specifically for the team’s World Cup qualification cycle. He successfully navigated the squad through pressure-filled penalty shootouts against the Republic of Ireland and Denmark, ending the nation’s 20-year wait to appear in the tournament. Koubek’s departure makes him the third head coach to resign during this tournament, following similar exits by Scotland’s Steve Clarke and South Korea’s Hong Myung-bo after their respective early eliminations.
