Governor Okpebholo Praises Edo Council Election Despite Logistical Challenges

Governor Monday Okpebholo has lauded the peaceful nature of the Edo local government elections, even as reports emerged regarding delayed materials and sparse voter turnout.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has characterized the state’s local government elections as peaceful and successful, notwithstanding reports of delayed materials and low voter participation across the 18 local government areas. The elections, managed by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), faced logistical hurdles throughout the 192 wards.

After voting at Udomi Primary School in Esan Central, Governor Okpebholo noted that his specific polling station operated efficiently with security and staff present. He expressed satisfaction with the general conduct of voters and suggested that the process reflects a healthy commitment to grassroots governance. He encouraged citizens to remain calm while awaiting the official EDSIEC results.

Blessing Ebhodaghe, the APC chairmanship candidate for Esan West, also voiced support for the process. While acknowledging that voter numbers were lower than typical general elections, he attributed some of this to difficulties voters experienced during the recent registration and PVC collection phases.
