President Tinubu finalizes long-delayed transfer of Apo traders to Wasa site

President Tinubu has officially inaugurated the infrastructure at Wasa District, enabling the long-awaited relocation of traders and mechanics from Apo to a modern facility.

The transfer of artisans, mechanics, and traders from Apo Mechanic Village to the Wasa District in Abuja has officially commenced, settling a matter that remained unresolved for over ten years. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the new access roads, water systems, and electrical installations at the Wasa Informal Sector Layout, enabling the move of thousands of workers.

Represented by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, President Tinubu highlighted that this project aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda. The initiative aims to provide essential facilities for the informal sector, moving beyond the inadequate conditions previously faced by workers near the Outer Southern Expressway. The President described the infrastructure as a way to bolster local commerce, increase Abuja’s revenue, and improve overall business conditions.

Addressing current national economic difficulties, the President acknowledged the hardship caused by ongoing reforms. He described these measures as essential steps to stabilize the country’s financial future. He promised to keep investing in job creation and agricultural development to ease these burdens.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike praised the administration for completing the work in under a year, noting that previous governments had failed to act on the relocation despite multiple promises. The minister called on the trade associations to settle internal disputes to facilitate an orderly transition. The project was executed by CGC Nigeria Limited and was supported by various regional stakeholders and the National Assembly.
