Alia prioritizes lasting growth over short-term aid, says supporter

A Benue state official supporter defends Governor Hyacinth Alia’s focus on sustainable infrastructure and agricultural investment as a superior alternative to temporary palliative distribution.

A loyalist of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, identified as Tagher Tagher Wan U Tiv—also called Baba Atsar Gundu—has publicly endorsed the governor’s decision to favor long-term economic stability over the distribution of relief palliatives.

Speaking on Friday, Tagher noted that the administration’s core mission is to foster self-sufficiency. This is being achieved through targeted investments in infrastructure, agricultural development, and vocational training for women and youth.

The government is currently distributing farm equipment and tractors while simultaneously building rural roads. These projects are designed to streamline the movement of agricultural goods to urban centers, thereby boosting the local economy.

Tagher contrasted this approach with the actions of certain politicians based in Abuja, whom he criticized for focusing on handouts and internal party disputes rather than systemic progress. He asserted that while relief packages offer brief assistance, they fail to resolve the structural issues of poverty and unemployment.

By fostering economic independence, the governor aims to diminish public reliance on state assistance. Tagher concluded by urging Benue citizens to champion these sustainable initiatives, which prioritize lasting human capital growth over fleeting, temporary measures.
