Kano Sharia Commission Vows to Penalize Unauthorized Friday Mosques

The Kano State Sharia Commission has announced that it will penalize any individuals or groups who establish Friday mosques without following the state’s legal approval process.

The Kano State Sharia Commission has issued a formal warning that legal penalties await anyone who opens a Friday (Jumu’ah) mosque without official authorization. Sheikh Ali Danabba, the commission’s second commissioner, communicated this stance during a recent press briefing in Kano.

Danabba clarified that the commission will refuse to acknowledge or sanction any place of worship established through unofficial channels. Prospective founders are required to secure explicit permission from the commission and satisfy all administrative and legal mandates before proceeding.

The commission remains committed to regulating these institutions to ensure they adhere to state laws. The commissioner called upon communities and religious groups to follow established guidelines for building houses of worship to maintain stability and order. Furthermore, the commission intends to maintain active oversight of religious activities to ensure ongoing legal compliance throughout Kano State.
