An emergency evacuation flight operated by Air Peace, in partnership with the Nigerian Federal Government, has departed South Africa carrying 39 additional citizens. Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the update on Friday.
The ministry clarified that this extra flight was scheduled to assist individuals who could not secure space on Thursday’s departure. This initiative ensures that everyone who finalized their travel paperwork before the cutoff date is transported home promptly. The aircraft is scheduled to land at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 8:50 pm.
Government officials expressed appreciation for Air Peace’s involvement in the mission. Plans are already in motion for another evacuation flight next week, which is slated to bring approximately 300 more Nigerians back from South Africa. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to prioritize the protection and safe return of nationals impacted by the recent xenophobic tensions in the region.
