Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has voiced his profound grief following a tragic building collapse on Peter Odili Road in Port Harcourt that resulted in multiple fatalities. In a social media post released on Friday, the governor reflected on his site inspection conducted the previous day, labeling the tragedy as an entirely preventable event.

Governor Fubara emphasized that such accidents have no place in an era where rigorous construction safety protocols and professional standards are mandatory. He extended his condolences to the grieving families and offered support to those injured. To address the situation, the governor confirmed that he had ordered an immediate shutdown of the construction site to facilitate a thorough investigation.

Despite ongoing emergency response efforts that spanned from early Thursday until sunset, search teams have yet to locate all victims. Rescue operations were temporarily halted on Thursday evening and were slated to resume on Friday morning to search for individuals still believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
