Uchechi Kanu dismisses rumors regarding divorce from IPOB leader

Uchechi Kanu has publicly dismissed reports claiming she filed for divorce from her incarcerated husband, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Uchechi Kanu, the spouse of detained Indigenous People of Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu, has responded to allegations claiming she initiated divorce proceedings. She addressed these rumors on her official X account, using laughing emojis to express her amusement at the false reports of her separating from her husband while he remains incarcerated.

Reports had previously surfaced suggesting Uchechi ended the marriage citing various grievances, including claims of infidelity and family interference. These allegations alleged that the union, which began in 2009, suffered from years of emotional hardship linked to Kanu’s personal life. Furthermore, the reports mentioned past associations involving Nnamdi Kanu and other individuals prior to his 2015 arrest.

Nnamdi Kanu is presently held at the Sokoto Custodial Centre, where he is serving a life sentence following a terrorism conviction related to his campaign for Biafra.
