Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, the General Officer Commanding of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, has ordered troops assigned to the Osun State governorship election to maintain high professional standards. During a briefing at the Engineer Construction Command in Ede on Friday, he emphasized the importance of following the established Code of Conduct for Election Duty.
Representing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to assisting civil authorities, General Mahmuda clarified that the military operation, labeled Operation SAFE CONDUCT, serves to support the Nigeria Police Force as the primary agency for election security. He explicitly instructed soldiers to steer clear of polling stations and only intervene when necessary to address security threats.
Echoing the expectations of Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Mahmuda urged personnel to avoid bias and remain strictly disciplined while protecting the national interest. He cautioned against harassing citizens and encouraged the public to trust the security measures intended to protect their right to vote.
