A new leadership struggle has erupted within the Kano State branch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). A faction of the party has requested that the police investigate alleged unlawful activities that threaten to disrupt local stability.
On July 8, the Kano State Transition Committee, under the leadership of Hon. Musa Shu’aibu Ungogo, filed a formal complaint with the Kano State Police Command. The committee disputes a move by Hajiya Najaatu Muhammed, who declared the dissolution of the existing state executive committee and the appointment of a new caretaker group headed by Alhaji Umar Bala.
Ungogo and Administrative Secretary Dr. Bala M. I. Takai argue that Najaatu’s actions lack legal standing. They maintain that only the National Executive Committee or the National Working Committee holds the authority to establish caretaker bodies. Furthermore, the faction asserts that Najaatu’s claimed title of Deputy National Chairman (North-West) was eliminated during the party’s April 2026 national convention.
The petition describes Najaatu’s recent maneuvers as unauthorized and potentially inflammatory. The faction members are calling on law enforcement to intervene to prevent civil unrest, while Najaatu’s supporters maintain the caretaker committee is necessary for party stability. At the time of this report, the Kano State Police Command has yet to issue a formal response.
