The Edo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced it will not take part in the upcoming local government polls on Saturday. Sector Commander Preye Bedford confirmed during a Friday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin that the agency received no formal invitation to join the election process.
Bedford noted that because the command was not included by the relevant electoral stakeholders, they would not be involved in the proceedings. Regarding the state-imposed movement restriction, which spans from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM, the commander stated that standard operations are expected to be halted. The agency plans to evaluate the conditions on the ground before determining if any traffic management intervention is necessary.
Currently, the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has approved 12 political parties to contest seats across the state’s 18 local government areas.
