Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has committed to restoring the Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort to full functionality by the close of the year. During a recent media briefing in Calabar, he explained that his administration has been working to reposition the facility following its recovery from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
With over 400 million US dollars already sunk into the project, the Governor emphasized that abandoning the resort would result in significant asset decay and wasted public funds. To ensure its success, authorities are currently upgrading retail spaces and have successfully stabilized electricity supply by securing a consistent gas source. An anchor tenant has already signed on, which the state expects will draw additional commercial interest.
Furthermore, plans are underway to build a jetty to enhance accessibility. Governor Otu noted that the state must prioritize reviving existing, abandoned investments rather than launching new, costly initiatives, especially given the state’s low federal revenue allocations. In addition to Tinapa, the government is completing long-stalled projects, such as the new Local Government Service Commission building, to provide better infrastructure for civil servants and boost administrative efficiency.
