The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially requested that an independent investigative panel be established to examine the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). This group, led by Adeniyi Adeyemi, is currently under fire for operating as an alleged fraudulent agency. The ADC’s demand follows President Bola Tinubu’s earlier instruction for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct an inquiry and present findings within one month.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, expressed support for the presidential directive but questioned the neutrality of a government body leading the investigation. During an appearance on the Channels TV show Politics Today, he argued that a government agency cannot effectively investigate its own administration, stating that an independent body is required to ensure justice is visible and credible. Abdullahi characterized the reliance on a state agency as a mere performance rather than a genuine pursuit of the truth.
Beyond the PFIPC controversy, Abdullahi addressed the ongoing detention of former governor Nasir El-Rufai. He asserted that the current administration is intentionally keeping El-Rufai in custody to weaken the opposition ahead of upcoming elections. Raising concerns over the former governor’s deteriorating health, Abdullahi warned that President Tinubu would face personal accountability if El-Rufai suffers any medical harm while under detention, particularly given reports that authorities arrested the doctor who had advised close medical monitoring.
