Cholera Outbreak Claims Nine ISWAP Insurgents in Borno

A cholera outbreak in the Timbuktu Triangle has killed nine ISWAP fighters, highlighting the group’s declining health conditions and disrupted logistics.

Intelligence reports indicate that a cholera epidemic has resulted in the deaths of nine Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) combatants within the Timbuktu Triangle, a prominent insurgent base located in Borno State.

Zagazola Makama, a security expert, shared information on X sourced from security personnel noting that the infection is widespread among various ISWAP hideouts. This situation highlights the poor sanitary environment and the lack of healthcare resources available to the militants.

Furthermore, sources revealed that two additional infected fighters were executed by their peers after failed attempts to treat them in Kimba village. These events underscore the declining state of health and hygiene in these camps, which have been severely impacted by ongoing military activity that has hindered the group’s supply chains and medical access.

Security officials are now urging commanders to prioritize the interception of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals intended for these terrorist enclaves to further diminish the operational and medical sustainability of the ISWAP network.
