The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has launched a crackdown on car dealers in the Abeokuta area who have failed to pay their taxes. This initiative aims to enforce tax regulations, collect overdue payments, and foster a culture of voluntary compliance.
Executive Chairman Olugbenga Olaleye confirmed the operation, explaining that steady revenue is essential for state-funded projects and public services. Representing him, Director of Other Taxes Oluyomi Dawodu explained that the move is designed to ensure fairness for all taxpayers and crack down on those avoiding their duties.
The agency highlighted that all vehicle dealers are required to maintain a valid dealership and registration number issued by the state government. Olaleye urged those currently operating outside the law to regularize their status immediately before the agency arrives at their premises.
Nicholas Abiola, who leads the Dealership Unit, voiced frustration regarding some operators who continue to evade tax requirements. He warned that the enforcement drive will eventually expand to all corners of the state to ensure that every outstanding debt is settled.
