Nigerian Army Prevents Abduction, Saves 37 Traders in Akwa Ibom

Military forces intercepted pirates on the Oron–Ibaka waterways, successfully rescuing 37 traders from a kidnapping attempt without any reported casualties.

Nigerian soldiers successfully stopped a maritime kidnapping attempt on the Oron–Ibaka waterways in Akwa Ibom State, securing the safety of 37 traders and boat crew members. Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the incident occurred Tuesday within the Akpa Aron Creek area of Oron Local Government.

Personnel from the 2 Brigade, serving under Operation Delta Safe, mobilized immediately following an emergency alert regarding sea pirates attacking a wooden merchant vessel. Upon encountering the military response, the assailants opened fire before ultimately abandoning their capture attempt to escape the area. No injuries were reported among the victims during the encounter.

The soldiers ensured the 37 individuals were transported securely to the Oron Jetty for processing. This mission aligns with broader military operations designed to safeguard Nigerian inland waterways and protect civilians from coastal criminal activity.
