Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has declared that the path toward replacing President Bola Tinubu in 2027 is now underway following a significant legal victory. This follows the Abuja Federal High Court’s decision, led by Justice Liman, to dismiss a lawsuit that aimed to challenge the legitimacy of the ADC leadership under former Senate President David Mark.
Speaking through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the ruling as a win for the rule of law and democratic principles. The court emphasized that political parties must operate according to their own internal constitutions and that parties are required to exhaust internal conflict resolution procedures before seeking judicial intervention. Justice Liman specifically noted that the court lacked jurisdiction over what essentially constitutes an internal party matter.
Atiku praised the court for maintaining its independence despite what he called attempts by political actors to use the judiciary as a tool for partisan interference. He asserted that the current National Working Committee, led by David Mark, was formed through a lawful and transparent process. According to the former vice president, this judicial outcome serves as a safeguard against efforts to undermine opposition parties in Nigeria, reinforcing the belief that justice remains accessible to those who seek it.
