Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has praised the Nigerian judiciary for its bravery and commitment to the Constitution. He stated that the courts have successfully resisted efforts by political figures to use the legal system to undermine opposition parties.
The statement followed a ruling by Justice Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which dismissed a lawsuit aimed at challenging the ADC’s leadership. Speaking through his assistant, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku celebrated the verdict as a significant win for constitutional democracy. The court determined that it lacked jurisdiction, noting that the case involved internal party matters that should have been settled through the ADC’s own constitutional processes rather than litigation.
Atiku lauded Justice Liman for preventing the court from being drawn into partisan conflicts. He argued that the ruling serves as evidence that institutional integrity can withstand political pressure. He dismissed the lawsuit as part of a broader, orchestrated attempt by those in power to weaken opposition parties through proxy litigation and institutional manipulation.
The former presidential candidate affirmed the legitimacy of the National Working Committee currently led by Senator David Mark, stating that it was established via transparent and legal procedures. He encouraged ADC members to stay united and focused on the broader national issues of economic hardship and insecurity rather than internal distractions. He concluded by reiterating the ADC’s commitment to providing a credible political alternative for the country.
