Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has advised eligible citizens to engage in the current voter registration process. He emphasized that signing up to vote serves as the essential basis for securing effective governance. Obi shared these remarks on Friday following unannounced stops at Independent National Electoral Commission registration sites in Nibo and Nri, Anambra State.
While traveling for local engagements, the former governor observed the registration centers and expressed satisfaction with the high level of participation. He praised those who had already signed up and pushed others to fulfill their duty.
Obi explained that the path toward better leadership starts long before individuals head to the polls. He framed the registration process as a vital civic responsibility and a long-term investment in the nation’s future. Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to urge their family members, friends, and coworkers to register before the official cutoff.
By expanding the number of registered voters, Obi believes the country can fortify its democratic institutions and move closer to achieving a more secure and prosperous society. He closed his statement by repeating his well-known message that a new Nigeria remains attainable.
