The Kwankwasiyya Movement recently declared that it welcomes political scrutiny but will take legal action against false and defamatory statements aimed at its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Habeeb Sale Mohammed, speaking for the group, stated that while they support free speech and constructive dialogue, they draw a firm line at the spread of intentional lies.
The group emphasized that Senator Kwankwaso has a long history of handling opposition with maturity. However, they refuse to ignore character assassination attempts disguised as political commentary. The movement asserted that no one, regardless of their position or status, is exempt from the law. They warned that individuals who circulate malicious falsehoods must be prepared to substantiate their claims in a court of law.
This response follows recent remarks made by Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, who allegedly suggested that Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), would betray his running mate, Peter Obi. Reports indicate that Kwankwaso is considering a N10 billion defamation lawsuit against the cleric for these accusations. The movement maintains that these attacks are part of a broader attempt to undermine their growing political influence and will not deter their mission to foster a united Nigeria.
