A violent raid led by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji struck several communities within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday evening. The attack resulted in the abduction of 37 individuals, the death of a 10-year-old child, and numerous injuries among local residents.
Journalist and security analyst Bakatsine reported that the armed group initially targeted the Tarah settlement. A fierce hour-long confrontation with local vigilante groups preceded the abduction of an initial group of residents, though 10 people successfully escaped by Thursday morning.
The violence continued in the Takatsaba community, where the attackers seized 37 residents and killed a child. Efforts to transport the wounded to the General Hospital in Sabon Birni were severely hampered by concerns that the access road had been compromised with explosives. As of now, government officials have not issued a formal statement regarding the tragedy.
