A unified military team successfully recovered Lt. Col. Ofor Amobi, a high-ranking Nigerian Army officer, and Ikechukwu Onwuanra, a civilian, following their ten-day captivity in Enugu State. News of the rescue was shared on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via social media, drawing on details provided by intelligence officials.
The operation, led by Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, took place in the early hours of August 1. It included personnel from the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and the 197 Special Forces Battalion, receiving crucial assistance from the Air Component.
Acting on intelligence, troops swept through forest areas in the Oji River Local Government Area between July 31 and August 1. Following a tip from the local Divisional Police Officer, the military patrol discovered both individuals abandoned near a forest border. Mr. Onwuanra had sustained a gunshot injury during the ordeal. Both were transported to the 82 Division Medical Hospital to receive care.
The victims reported being blindfolded during their abduction and held in an undisclosed area. They were eventually left behind as military pressure increased. Authorities are currently working to locate and apprehend the kidnappers, crediting the success of the mission to persistent surveillance and coordinated pressure on criminal hideouts.
