Butchers Association Praises Uba Sani for Revamping Kaduna Abattoirs

Butchers in Kaduna State are lauding Governor Uba Sani for the widespread modernization of abattoirs, which has improved hygiene, reduced meat spoilage, and increased business revenue.

Governor Uba Sani has modernized the meat processing industry in Kaduna State by installing advanced cold-chain facilities across all three senatorial districts. This initiative has garnered praise from the Sabon Gari Branch of the Butchers Association of Nigeria, which highlights the resulting improvements in food safety, hygiene, and overall vendor profitability.

During a media tour organized by Information and Culture Commissioner Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, butchers showcased the renovated Zango Shanu Modern Abattoir. Alkasim Mai-Nama, representing the association, noted that the facility previously lacked storage, forcing vendors to discard unsold inventory. The new cold rooms allow for safe preservation, effectively ending years of significant financial loss.

Vice Chairman Jamilu Umar remarked that this is the facility’s most significant upgrade since its inception in the early 1980s. The overhaul includes better drainage and water systems, which have significantly bolstered public health standards. Additionally, the installation of a perimeter fence has improved site security, attracting traders from surrounding states like Katsina and Zamfara.

State Commissioner for Agriculture, Malam Murtala Dabo, stated that the administration is focused on strengthening the entire livestock value chain. Beyond abattoirs, the government has provided solar-powered boreholes and grazing fields to 19 pastoralist communities to help curb farmer-herder conflicts. In total, the state has established three modern abattoirs and 21 slaughterhouses to solidify Kaduna’s position as a central hub for meat processing in Nigeria.
