FCT Police Address Misleading Video Featuring Peter Obi

The FCT Police Command has debunked a viral video of Peter Obi speaking to officers, labeling it as a manipulated clip meant to suggest a false political endorsement during a 2024 security deployment.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has issued a statement to correct misinformation regarding a viral video showing Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, speaking to police officers in Abuja. The clip, which appeared on social media, depicted Obi praising officers and promising improvements to their welfare, leading to speculation about potential political endorsements.

SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police, officially debunked these claims. She stated that the original footage was manipulated with political captions and campaign imagery to create a false impression of a political rally. According to the police, the event actually took place in 2024 when officers were dispatched to the Labour Party headquarters in Utako to manage a disturbance caused by a party leadership conflict.

The police clarified that Obi’s interaction with the officers was an accidental consequence of their presence at the scene to maintain public order. The command emphasized that the conversation lacked any political motive and cautioned the public against misinterpreting professional police operations for political engagement.
