Ebonyi State Governor Nwifuru Implements Significant Cabinet Shake-up

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has initiated a major cabinet reshuffle, reassigning multiple commissioners to new roles to enhance governance and further the administration’s policy goals.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has executed a widespread reshuffling of his cabinet, moving various commissioners to different ministries. This strategic adjustment is intended to bolster governance and solidify the progress made during his three-year tenure.

Barr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, confirmed the changes following a State Executive Council meeting. The move coincides with the swearing-in of two commissioners, Professor Omari Omaka and Hon. Sylvester Nwenu Nwite, alongside the appointment of Hon. Felix Onyekachi Njoku as Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation.

Governor Nwifuru urged the new appointees to prioritize selfless service in support of the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs. The redeployments include Chidiebere Onya moving to Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu heading Special Projects, and Professor Omari Omaka leading Tertiary Education. Other key reassignments involve shifts in the ministries of Environment, Market Development, Solid Mineral Development, Water Resources, and Urban Development.

The Governor has mandated that all transition procedures be finalized by the close of business on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. While several officials were moved, others such as Barr. Ben Uruchi Odoh (Justice) and Engr. Jude Okpor (Rural Development) were kept in their current positions.

Omebeh clarified that these adjustments were based on professional backgrounds and the desire to maximize individual expertise rather than a result of poor performance. The administration aims to infuse new energy into governance and improve policy implementation through these strategic appointments.
