The Osun State Police Command has issued a strong warning to political figures and organizations to stop linking security concerns to partisan agendas. Authorities cautioned that reckless rhetoric risks damaging public trust and hindering active police investigations.
In an official statement released Sunday by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, the Command criticized the trend of labeling security incidents with political motives. The police urged party officials and campaign leaders to avoid spreading unsubstantiated claims that could incite instability or weaken community faith in law enforcement.
The Command specifically dismissed claims made by Pastor Victor Akande of the Osun Accord, who suggested that the transfer of the Dada Estate Divisional Police Officer was politically motivated due to his handling of a case in Okinni. Police officials clarified that the transfer was part of a standard administrative rotation involving 20 officers, designed to enhance operational performance and address shifting security demands. The Command emphasized that investigations remain ongoing, noting that the Commissioner has ordered a thorough and impartial review to ensure justice. Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining order without political interference and warned that those spreading falsehoods will face legal consequences.
