Soldiers from the Nigerian Army detained two individuals suspected of acting as informants for terrorists during a targeted security mission at Askira Uba Market, located in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the operation, noting that personnel from the 115 Task Force Battalion executed the arrests around 3:10 p.m. on August 1. The mission followed a period of surveillance prompted by intelligence regarding the pair’s suspicious actions in the area.
Early reports suggest the suspects were relaying sensitive details to insurgents active in North-East Nigeria. Following their capture, the men were transferred to the 28 Task Force Brigade Headquarters for a deeper investigation.
Military officials indicated that this arrest aligns with their broader strategy to disrupt insurgent support systems. By targeting informants, the military aims to weaken the operational capacity of extremist groups. Such efforts are ongoing throughout the North-East as the army works to improve regional stability.
